This case study is built on a simulation of the English NHS and is intended to provide contextual relevance to the non-executive director development programme. The case study, which is regularly updated to reflect changing policy context, represents the fictional Rivergate health system and its constituent organisations:
• Barset General Hospitals NHS Trust
• Casterbridge University Hospital Foundation Trust
• Rivergate Mental Health & Social Care Foundation Trust
• Rivergate Primary Care Trust
• Rivergate Hospital, an independent treatment centre owned and managed by Eurohealth UK
When Rivergate is run it is augmented with incidents and untoward events that would normally only occur over many months in the average health system. This is for development purposes and to make the case study more interesting. All incidents and events are based on real-life situations.
